"If there's one thing you can
say, About Mankind, There's nothing kind about man. You can drive out
nature with a pitch fork, But it always comes roaring back again.
Misery's the River of the World"
- Tom Waits, "Misery's the River of the World"
I
just forgot to post quotes for February 12-13, absorbed by some other
matters. As for the February 14th quote being dark rather than hopeful
for St. Valentine's Day... I'd just heard some news of violence, and I
simply wasn't feeling inclined to post something lovey-dovey.

"And none will hear the postman's knock
Without a quickening of the heart.
For who can bear to feel himself forgotten?"
- W.H. Auden
